So, what are the best MP3 players? Can
we narrow our buying options down? Does size really matter?
These are questions that most of us get very perplexed with
when looking for electronics mp3 players.
The answer is that there is really no
BEST electronics mp3 player. Dependant on what you will
be using it for will dictate what you need. There are
some well know brand name mp3 players in the market. Apple
Ipod, Creative Zen, Zune, iRiver and Sony. These are
well known and popular makes. popularity does count for
something. Usually if a popular product turns out to be a load
of junk, it doens't staypopular for long.
We'll take a look at some of the
features of electronics mp3 players and give you some
food for thought.
Types -
MP3 Players
Firstly, you need to ask yourself the
question - What are you going to use the unit for, and what
features are you likely to want. Aim to look ahead a little,
but electronics MP3 players are moving ahead so quickly that
whatever you buy will be outdated in a couple of years. That's
not to say it won't bring you many years of service.
Are you likely to jog with you mp3 player or visit the
gym with it?
If so, then it's worth
considering a FLASH memory MP3 player. Thse are far less
fragile and less susceptible to damage from jolting movements.
They have few moving parts and are excellent for active people.
Anything less than 20 GB is pretty much considered a flash
memory electronics MP3 player these days. You Ipod Nano,
Sandisk e200 and the Creative Zen fall within this
category.
Is an FM radio important to you?
Most players these days include the
radio feature. I've found the reception to be a little hit and
miss occasionally, but the benefits of a radio far outweigh the
drawbacks.
How much music do you have to
transfer to the electronics MP3
player?
More than 10 GB? If so then a hard
drive based MP3 player is for you. The full sized Ipods and
many of the Creative Zen come in sizes with huge storage
capacities. You'll rarely run out of space.
Would you like to be able to add accessories
later?
Ipods have a vast accessory range, far
greater than any of the other models. This is worth
considering. There are plenty of speaker units, cases etc to
upgrade your Ipod.
Do you want to watch video on
your mp3 player?
You can pick from the newest ipods, the zen vision M, the
newest gigabeat, etc. Each different player supports different
file types. Most will require you to convert the files. If you
don't care about video, you can probably find an older or used
player to satisfy you.
Is video functionality
important to you?
Many of the large capacity models have
video capabilities. The Ipods, Creative Zen Visions and the
Gigabeats all have fantastic video functionality. It's well
worth getting if you can afford it.
Best
Buy MP3 Players
So what is the 'Best Buy MP3
Player'?
Well as mentioned before, it's
difficult to selct one particular model over another. If you
are looking with a capacity of 20GB or less, the Ipod Nano
is extremely popular. It comes in 1, 2 , 4, 8 and 16GB models
and can be snapped up for under $170 for the 16GB model. The 8
GB is around $135. For that sort of money, the 16GB is worth
considering, as once you start importing songs you'll wish you
went for the larger model.
I've used a Creative Zen for a number
of years and find it pretty good. The modern ones are great.
The Creative Zen 32 GB Portable Media
Player plays video, has a massive capacity, stores up to 120
hours of video or 8000 songs. A steal at under
$135.
So there you have it. A look at
some of the considerations for buying an MP3 player. The best
mp3 players are the ones that suit your needs, don't keep
breaking down on you, and have a realtively long life
expectancy. Add on a few accessories and you're all set for
many hours of listening and viewing
pleasure. Electronics MP3 Players
are one of the greatest gadgets you van buy.
